| About Trilogy: Philosophy |
Trilogy Lacrosse has multiple layers of significance that symbolize and embrace who we are and what we're trying to do. We believe that to be successful in lacrosse, or any endeavor for that matter, three interconnected yet distinct factors are at play. First, one needs a deep understanding of how the game works at both the macro and micro levels. We break the game down and simplify it so it is easy to grasp. We then gradually move into more advanced techniques, akin to building blocks. As we teach specific points of the game, we always answer the "why" question. Therefore, young players can apply their knowledge of specific skills into the larger framework. We give them the skills to critically think about the game on their own; if they understand each individual part, they can then understand how all of those pieces fit into the whole. We develop students of the game, as opposed to robots.
Second, each young player is different - a rigid formula doesn't take into account the physical gifts of each kid. We don't try to fit square pegs into round holes. We emphasize working with a player's natural instincts and encouraging the development of his natural gifts. Every kid has some type of talent - we unlock it and help him to be excellent at something. If a player is slow of foot and small but has good hand-eye coordination - we will focus on developing him as an off-ball player. If a player is slow and has mediocre hand-eye coordination, but is a good communicator, we'll develop his ability to be the defensive leader, playing largely off ball inside, identifying situations, and communicating the defensive sets and rotations. We look at each kid as an individual; we work on all aspects of his game, but we highlight his strengths.
Third, passion leads to success. If a player loves what he is doing and having fun, he will play above his potential. He will play loose, his mind will be clear, and his instincts will guide him. We have a very engaging, enthusiastic, and positive teaching style. We're not rah-rah cheerleading types, but we love what we do. We care about the kids and we are excited when they get it! We celebrate success, but do not berate kids if they are having trouble. We've found that our energy is contagious and our players love their Trilogy Lacrosse experience.
