Camp Director Wrap Up
We had a great week of camp highlighted by some great meals, tremendous lacrosse, and a spirited raffle. Georgetown College was once again, a fabulous host as they put up signs everywhere, provided custom lanyards, and accommodated all players and Staff on two floors of the Anderson dorms. After spending the last few years on the East Campus, we decided to move to Anderson to create a better overall camp experience. We were more integrated with the rest of the school and players and staff got the chance for more interactions given the structure of our arrangements.
Our week began with Mexican night in the cafeteria and our first instructional session on the main lacrosse field. That night, once we settled down in the dorms, we recognized a few groups that liked to “party” by playing their favorite tunes and showing off their dance moves. Very impressive taste in music and skills to say the least!
The following days consisted of morning sessions that focused on individual positional techniques and group strategies, afternoon sessions where we worked on shooting and stickwork, and scrimmages in the evenings. We stressed to the players that we wanted them to take the lessons from the early sessions and incorporate them into the games. We saw them do so with techniques such as on-ball picks, proper spacing during clears, and moving the ball down the side in transition.
The only thing that stopped us was the weather as the chance of thunderstorms forced us to stay inside for one session. We did more shooting and played “hockey” to work on ball control with our longpoles. We also had various information stations so the players learned about college lacrosse options, how to string their own stick, and all of their manufacturing choices with equipment. Apparently some of the boys were inspired by the indoor “hockey” as some of games continued that night in the dorms!
Thursday night we had a great last night as we feasted on an incredible hog roast and then conducted our raffle that featured incredible Gait gear, some of my personal items such as a game used shaft and Team USA gloves and pinney, and of course, Trilogy Lacrosse’s famed Mystery Boxes!
We finished Camp up with another round of scrimmages, the best of the week, before checking out. All in all, it was an incredible week and we can’t wait until next year!
