Camp Director Wrap Up

What a week of camp!
After the very first instructional session on Monday night, all of the Staff remarked on the players’ dedication and focus during the drills. They brought incredible energy from start to finish and we enjoyed working with every player. The overall level of talent was also very high so we were able to move quickly from one skill to the next, challenging the players to reach new heights.
Each day we progressed from individual and group positional work in the morning to stickwork and shooting in the afternoon before concluding with scrimmages in the evenings. The players did a tremendous job incorporating skills from the smaller groups into the larger sessions. For example, all defenseman used the rotation in the 32 Stickwork Drill in the ¾ Field 3v2. Moreoever, the Midfielders and Attack used the Triangle passing drills in 3v3 and then in the scrimmages. This practice allowed us to dodge, roll away from pressure, throw to a teammate, and then re-dodge: high level concepts used at the collegiate and professional levels!
During the afternoon sessions, we let the players wear helmets and gloves to beat the heat. This also served as a reward for their hard work. We also let them switch positions during some of the scrimmages so they could try something new at camp before going back to their original assignments. This led to some wild interactions, especially with the Machine players, where some unexpected individual battles took place that weighed heavily on the final score.
The scrimmages went exceptionally well and reached an apex on Friday morning. All Staff members thought that the players showed significant individual improvement as well as within the groups.
Off the field, the week could not have gone any smoother. The Anderson dorms provided a much more tight-knit camp experience that enabled boys to hang out with each other and the staff much more easily. The Camp Store was consistently packed as the boys ordered pizza, asked Coach Murphy questions about products, or wanted to know where the scissors were to cut their strings. Other highlights included Coach Hardy’s stick stringing tutorials and Coach Tumbas cheering the Lakers on much to the chagrin of most campers. Lastly, Georgetown College put on an incredible hog roast as our last dinner before our awesome raffle.
Once again, Coach Hardy stepped to the plate and delivered a memorable experience. He raffled off the latest Gait products, some personal Staff items, such as Coach Tumbas’ brand new armpads that had yet to hit the market, and the famous Trilogy Lacrosse Mystery Boxes with Mitchell walking home with the grand prize of my Boston Cannons helmet!
We can’t thank the players enough for an incredible week of camp and hope to see everyone again next year!
