Trilogy Rocks the Burgh! Yeah that’s right, we came, we saw, we conquered. Once again, Shady Side Academy plays gracious host to the coolest, rockingest bunch of lacrosse players west of the Alleghenies. Pittsburgh 2010 was no doubt our best trip to the Burgh yet. Among the many familiar faces—yeah, PYLAX and Hampton!—we saw plenty of new ones, and though we the coaches barely managed to get a word in edge-wise when Jack Standbridge was talking, camp was a huge success.
Although campers were extremely disappointed not to have to walk all the way out to the Squaw Run fields, we finally got access to the turf for our afternoon shooting sessions, and even when the thunderstorms tried to knock us off our game, we bit the bullet and took our skills into the Thunderdome (Shady Side’s Hockey Rink). There, with the rains coming down outside, we all witnessed one of the craziest, nail-biter finishes in camp history—complete with Braveheart fireworks—and some wacky celebrations from Coach Ryan “Axel” Foley and Prestige World-wide.
As always, the camp raffle was another highlight of camp. With the mystery box in full effect, we saw some guys go away empty handed (some guys twice—Whatever you do, Don’t take the Pizza Box!!), but there were tons who went away with cool prizes and fun was definitely had by all. Much thanks goes out to Shady Side—especially Rosie, who kept us fed in the dining hall—and, of course, thanks to all those players who came to camp this summer.
As I said many times at camp, the guys who have put in the effort, the guys who’ve come to camps and clinics, who’ve worked on their own and with their individual teams and friends, the work is paying off. Skills, across the board, are improving. Pittsburgh is well on its way to becoming a lacrosse force! The future bodes well, and we’ll see you all in 2011!
