For Coach Greg Downing and myself, returning to Riptide country was a treat we had been looking forward to for many weeks, and the boys of Southern Orange County did not disappoint. Our small middle school group got what had to be the best coach-to-camper ratio in the country and learned a ton, and the high school group maintained a level of competition and intensity that was refreshing for August!

We worked on important concepts like picks, slip-picks and flips with both groups and really saw many of those 2-man game skills come into play during the scrimmages at both levels. While the younger guys gave it their all in Hungry Hungry Hippos early in the week, their shooting clearly improved as they progressed throughout the week and in the scrimmages.

Clearing through, creating space and working in triangles were some of the major concepts we focused on with the high school players, and in addition to running some pretty offensive plays, they also were able to incorporate a few amazing fast breaks into the game on Thursday.

It was a great first day camp in Southern California and we look forward to continuing to build on our success at Capo Valley and Whittier this Fall and next summer!
